Apple Torte with Lemon Sauce


Apple Torte:

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 cups chopped apple (peeled)
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Cream butter and sugar. beat in egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and beat together. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into a greased 9x9 pan and bake 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Serve warm with lemon sauce and whipped cream.

Lemon sauce:

     1 cup sugar
     2 Tbs. cornstarch
     2 cups water
     dash salt
     dash nutmeg
Combine in a saucepan and cook, stirring until think and bubbly. Remove from heat and add:
     3 Tbs. lemon juice
     3 Tbs. butter

This cake looks delicious! I can't wait to try it. Do any of you have a good apple pie recipe? I am on the hunt for one. It is Brittyn's favorite and I've tried a few different versions, but they haven't turned out. It's probably just me, but I would love to try a new apple pie recipe or two! --Becky
